Choosing your
birth space
At New Life Midwifery, we work in partnership with women to discuss each individual familyβs needs and wishes regarding their birth space.
βThe evidence is clear that planned birth at home with a midwife is a safe option for many women.β - ACM
For some the most comfortable and safe place is going to be at home with their birthing team. Our midwives support the choice of midwife-attended birth at home as a safe option for women with uncomplicated pregnancies. Birthing women should feel private, safe and unobserved, surrounded by love. All midwives are experienced in supporting women in this environment.
Two midwives will be in attendance if you decide to birth your baby at home. Some women may have made this choice during their pregnancy while others may make the decision during labour.
Your midwife will stay with you for a few hours after the birth, when you feel safe and comfortable for her to leave.
Birth at Home
Birthing option 1
Your private midwife can provide care through early and active labour at home, and then continue to provide one to one expert support when you choose to or need to go to hospital for your babyβs birth. Research demonstrates that women are less likely to experience intervention if they minimise their time at hospital while in labour.
Birth at Hospital
Birthing option 2
One-on-One Labour
Our midwives have a collaborative arrangement with Ipswich Hospital, working with medical and midwifery colleagues at Ipswich hospital to ensure your needs are met, including when you or your baby require multidisciplinary care.
Our midwives do not have visiting rights at any hospital so we provide midwifery support only while in the health care service. This includes working in partnership with you and providing physical and emotional support and advocacy for woman-centred care.
Postpartum Support
Most women are healthy and well when they have recovered from the exhilaration of meeting their baby face to face and canβt wait to take their new family member back to the comfort of their own home.
Women are able to discharge from birth suite in 6 hours if all is well, otherwise as soon as they choose, considering their individual circumstances. Your midwife remains on call for your postnatal care.
